Hey there.
I’m Shanna (rhymes with banana) Upchurch, and I write picture books and middle grade novels. I grew up in rural Illinois, but now I call Texas home. My books feature brave kids, awesome animals, and world-ending plots with big-hearted journeys. When I’m not writing, you can find me wrangling my five feral kids, hanging with honeybees in my apiary, digging up potatoes in the garden, or trying to keep my goats from climbing on the car (again). If you’re a curious person or you’ve ever felt a little different or you’ve seen how scared and brave are two sides of the same coin, you’ll be right at home in my stories.
A Few Favorites.
Favorite Animal
Goats are my favorite animal! Actually, honeybees are my favs. No wait, goats. Bees! Bees are my favorite animal. Definitely. Maybe. OK, bees and goats are both my favorite. What's yours?
Favorite Sandwich
Peanut butter and thin-sliced bananas with a drizzle of honey. If you're feeling wild and crazy, add some raisins or dried cranberries, maybe a few pretzels! Try it and thank me later.
Favorite Place to Write
Under the shade of the oak tree in the pasture with goats all around. Until they try to eat my hair, my shirt, or my laptop. Then I like to write in one of the quiet rooms in the library where the big windows let in the sunshine.
